Mrk 1239: a Type-2 Counterpart of Narrow-line Seyfert-1?

We present new spectrophotometric and spectropolarimetric observations of Mrk 1239, one the 8 prototypes that defines type-1 narrow-line Seyfert galaxies (NLS1s). Unlike other typical NLS1s though, a high degree polarization ($P\sim$5.6%) red optical-IR ($g-W_4$ = 12.35) colors suggest 1239 is more similar to type-2 active galactic nuclei like NGC 1068. Detailed analysis spectral energy distribution in UV-optical-IR yields two components from nucleus: direct transmitted component heavily obscured ($E_{B-V} \approx 1.6$), another indirect scattered with mild extinction \sim$ 0.5). Such two-light-paths scenario also found previous reports based on X-ray data. Comparison emission lines detection He\,{\footnotesize I}*$\lambda$10830 BAL at [-3000,-1000] km s$^{-1}$ indicates obscuring clouds are physical scale between sublimation radius narrow line regions. The potential existence powerful outflows as both obscurer scatterer outflowing. Similar many type-2s, jet-like structure radio band perpendicular angle, suggesting polar scattering. argue very probably counterpart NLS1s. identification 1 out prototype implies there can be substantial amount analogs misidentified type-1s optical band.
